Schools Where the SAT I & ACT Are De-emphasized in Admissions

FairTest has compiled a list of around 740 colleges and universities nationwide that admit a substantial number of students without regard to test scores. The list includes a wide variety of institutions, from small, private liberal arts colleges to large, public university systems. Some of the schools require all applicants to submit test scores whether or not they use the test scores to make admissions decisions. Students should check with individual schools to find out the precise requirements.

What the schools on our list have in common is their recognition of the limitations of the SAT and ACT. Many of these colleges and universities have conducted their own studies which show that standardized tests do little to increase the ability of their admissions officers to predict success at their institutions. In addition to the 740 schools currently on our list, hundreds of schools de-emphasize standardized tests in their admissions processes but have not yet taken the additional step of formally stopping use of the tests to make admissions decisions about a particular group of applicants.
