Helpful Resources for Admissions Reviews
FairTest has been contacted by a number of undergraduate schools — both public and private — which are analyzing their admissions procedures. A very useful resource in that review is the publication Test Scores do Not Equal Merit: Enhancing Equity & Excellence in College Admissions by Deemphasizing SAT and ACT Results. Use the order form to get a copy or send one to your alma mater’s admission officials.
In addition, a special issue of the Association of Governing Board’s newsletter Priorities on the topic “Multiple Choice for Standardized Tests” is available to college presidents and trustees. Written by Univ. of Maryland Director of Testing William Sedlacek, an expert in using non-cognitive factors in the admissions process, it provides guidance to education policy-makers. Contact AGB at (202) 296-8400 or via http://www.agb.org/.
FairTest finds that nearly 850 four-year colleges do not use the SAT I or ACT to admit substantial numbers of bachelor degree applicants.
